Musicianship Classes Fall 2022BSM Musicianship Classes throughout the 2022-2023 Academic Year will feature Modern Era Music & Composers. Each class will feature a different notable composer, highlighting their life, their music, and their compositional style.
All Musicianship Classes will be held online via Zoom. There will be NO registration required, and the link will be made available the week leading up to the class. All homework packets will be available in the student portal. Sept 10: 12:00 - 12:30 PM. Join us to learn about French "impressionist" composer and pianist Claude Debussy. In class we will learn about Debussy's life, his career, and explore his music which not only shows his creativity and innovation with harmony and color at the piano. We will talk about why certain music is thought of as "impressionistic" and how Debussy's music fits into this category. Oct 8: , 12:00 - 12:30 PM. Our second class will feature the life and career of Bela Bartok, who pioneered the fields of musicology and ethnomusicology and devoted his life to bringing the gypsy and folk melodies of Eastern Europe to the Western world. In this class we will talk a lot about folk music, folk melodies, and how they play an important part in our musical tradition. |
Fall 2022 Virtual Studio Performance ClassAll BSM students are invited to join us from 12:00 - 12:30 PM on select Saturdays for a virtual studio performance class. During each class, we will offer opportunities for students to play a piece (or pieces) they are working with for each other. This is a fantastic way to gain performance experience, test out your pieces prior to a performance, and get creative and constructive comments from peers! Memorization is not required. We would encourage students to plan to attend and perform as much as they are able to.
There is NO registration for this class - all are welcome to attend. Students who wish to perform should discuss with their teachers in their lesson that week. Please check your email in the week leading up to the class for the specific Zoom link. |
